INTRODUCTION:

The Pillars Dream Living Foundation, a non-profit organization, initiated a project to provide clean water and improve hygiene in JACOB ADELEYE STREET ODO ERAN ITIRE LAGOS STATE and SANGOYOYIN AREA IRAGBIJI. The project focused on drilling a borehole to ensure a consistent and safe water supply, This report provides an overview of the project, its implementation, and the resulting impact on the community.

PROJECT BACKGROUND:

JACOB ADELEYE STREET ODO ERAN ITIRE LAGOS STATE and SANGOYOYIN AREA IRAGBIJI is a community located in the outskirts of Osun state, Nigeria. The community faced challenges in accessing clean water, which negatively affected their health and well-being. The Pillars Dream Living Foundation recognized the need for a sustainable solution and decided to drill a borehole to provide clean and accessible water to the community.

OBJECTIVES:

The main objectives of the project were:

a) To provide a consistent and sustainable source of clean water to the JACOB ADELEYE STREET ODO ERAN ITIRE LAGOS STATE and SANGOYOYIN AREA IRAGBIJI.

b) To reduce the prevalence of waterborne diseases and improve overall hygiene in the community.

c) To promote environmental sustainability by reducing the community’s dependence on surface water sources.

IMPLEMENTATION:

a) Site Selection: The Foundation conducted a hydrogeological survey to identify the most suitable location for the borehole. Factors such as water table depth, groundwater quality, and accessibility were considered during the selection process.

b) Drilling and Construction: A professional drilling team was hired to carry out the borehole drilling process. The drilling was completed using a rotary drilling rig, and the borehole was lined with casing to prevent contamination and collapse. A hand pump was installed for easy access to water.

c) Community Engagement: The Foundation engaged community members throughout the project, providing training on water management, hygiene practices, and borehole maintenance. A Water and Sanitation Committee was established to oversee the borehole’s operation and upkeep.

IMPACT:

a) Improved Health: With access to clean water, the community experienced a reduction in waterborne diseases such as diarrhea and cholera. Overall health and sanitation in the community improved significantly.

b) Enhanced Quality of Life: The borehole has reduced the time and effort required to collect water, allowing community members, especially women and children, to focus on other productive activities.

c) Environmental Sustainability: The project has contributed to preserving the local environment by reducing the community’s reliance on surface water sources, which are often prone to contamination.

CONCLUSION:

The borehole drilling project in JACOB ADELEYE STREET ODO ERAN ITIRE LAGOS STATE and SANGOYOYIN AREA IRAGBIJI by The Pillars Dream Living Foundation has successfully addressed the community’s need for clean water and improved hygiene. The initiative has had a positive impact on health, quality of life, and environmental sustainability. Regular monitoring and evaluation will ensure the project’s long-term success and serve as a model for similar interventions in other communities.
